Course Description

Introduces perceptual concepts and pragmatic use of color within art and design. Takes a hands-on approach to perceiving, choosing, and creating color through studio exercises in gouache paint, collage, and colored paper. Color language, concepts, and theories will be examined through historical and contemporary material and artworks. Studio work will be supported by exposure to scientific theories of perception, and the cultural contexts within which color is always seen. No previous experience in art is necessary.
