Course Description

Introduces the creative possibilities in ceramics, emphasizing diverse approaches to clay and/or clay-like materials as sculptural material. Investigates, discusses and evaluates process, form, color, surface, scale, content and the ephemeral characteristics of ceramic sculpture. Students have an opportunity to learn about the physical and chemical properties of traditional ceramics and contemporary applications. Projects allow students to explore a variety of materials and strategies, which may include handbuilding techniques, mold-making, carving, vessel building, glazing and firing.
