Course Description
Emphasizes the importance of microbes in everyday life by highlighting the role of microbes in biotechnology, industry, agriculture, and the environment as well as in diseases. Addresses the assessment and control of microbial growth as an essential part of Public Health. Lectures may be complemented with case studies, student presentations, hands-on activities during class time, and/or a site visit to a nearby sewage treatment plant. Designed for students without a background in biology, this is one of the core courses for the Public Health Major and Minor, but does not meet requirements for a major or minor in Biology.
