Course Description

Advanced study of chemical thermodynamics and kinetics. Topics may include the laws of thermodynamics describing the state functions internal energy, enthalpy, entropy, and free energy; physical and chemical equilibria; an introduction to statistical thermodynamics; rate laws and their determination, theories of reaction rates, reaction mechanism and catalysis. Laboratory experiments seek to determine the thermodynamic and kinetic behavior of systems using spectroscopic techniques.
