Course Description

What is a genre? How do assumptions shaped by genre inform our interpretation of literary and film texts and structure our experiences of those narratives? Students will have the opportunity to explore these questions through reading film and genre theory and through viewing classic and contemporary films in such genres as film noir, melodrama, romance, and the western.
