Course Description

Offers in-depth study of a particular author, genre, theme, or topic from the Middle Ages and/or Renaissance. Such topics/authors as: the 14th century, allegory, medieval/Renaissance drama, Renaissance poetry or prose are possible. Includes an introduction to the use of specialized critical and secondary materials pertinent to the topic. Asks students to develop their literary critical writing through assignments that will put their own analysis of the materials in dialog with the critical traditions associated with the topic.
