Course Description
Discusses prose narratives and critical texts written in French from the late 17th through the 21st centuries analyzing among others, the representation of gender, masculinity, femininity, gender fluidity and sexuality. It also examines different waves of French feminism, and the study of 20th and 21st century authors includes writers from Quebec, Francophone Africa, and the French Caribbean. Cultural and historical contexts as well as the study of a few theoretical concepts provide the tools to develop critical readings and oral presentations on the material covered in class.
