Course Description
A conversation and composition class on current events and contemporary themes in France and the Francophone world. Seeks to enhance oral fluency through class discussions, debates, oral presentations on recent topics in the French media. Written practice through media analysis, press reviews, and short papers. With a community-based-learning component, students, paired with a student from a local educational institution, are also able to exchange their views, from their own cultural perspectives, on different contemporary themes (media, immigration, family, education, etc.) covered in class. Exposed to larger linguistic and cultural issues from our global world, students are able to develop an intercultural communicative competence in a cross-cultural community-based-learning context while growing a greater awareness and deeper appreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity.
