Course Description

Guides students through the process and practice of contemporary media research. Students will have the opportunity to learn through selected case studies a variety of theoretical approaches and methodologies to media studies and communications research, including but not limited to political economy, theories of representation, historical and digital media forms and technologies, media industry studies, and participatory/audience analysis. A collaborative research project throughout the semester allows students to demonstrate research competencies and proficiencies that are readily applicable in both real-world media industry settings as well as in furthering scholarship in this interdisciplinary field.
