An introduction to music composition with emphasis on developing musical imagination through applying enhanced listening skills to the perception of the pitch and rhythm of speech. Explores related aspects of music notation systems, aesthetics, philosophy, psychology, physics, ecology, and neuroscience. Uses free and open-source versions of music production computer technology so original creative work can be heard. Designed for students with little or no prior musical knowledge and more advanced students interested in learning about music from the perspective of the composer.
