Course Description

Surveys the ways that social forces influence population health in the areas of infectious disease, environmental and occupational health, and community health. Inspects the role of power within institutional settings - political, legal, and economic - in producing differential health outcomes across populations. Examples are drawn from global, U.S.-specific, and local sociocultural determinants. Participants have the opportunity to develop fluency in quantitative health databases, metrics common to population health, and visualizing comparisons in health outcomes.
