Course Description

Scientific advances in the late 19th and early 20th centuries resulted in the prevention and control of many infectious diseases, particularly in industrialized nations. Despite these improvements in health, outbreaks of infectious diseases continue to occur and new infections continue to emerge, some with devastating effects. Students will have the opportunity to address trends in infectious diseases, analyze factors contributing to disease emergence, and discuss the development and implementation of prevention and control measures. Relevant topics in microbial pathogenesis and transmission, as well as important aspects of international health may also be addressed.
