Course Description

A study of the wave equation, properties of wave motion, and electromagnetic waves. The propagation of light, dispersion, and absorption. Geometrical optics, lenses, optical systems. Superposition, interference, and Fraunhofer and Fresnel diffraction. Topics in modern optics.Meets: Four hours lecture. Prerequisite: PHYS+150, 160, and MATH+250. Offered spring semester in even-numbered years.
