Offers an introduction to the study of consumption and consumer culture. Topics include the historical context and theoretical tensions in the study of consumption, the production, value, and meaning of the objects we consume, the subjectivity of consumers, the places where goods and services are consumed, ethical concerns regarding consumption including consumer activism, credit and debt, alternative forms of consumption, and the globalization of mass consumer culture.
