Course Description
Examines contemporary feminist theory as an interdisciplinary body of knowledge [made up of voices and perspectives from a wide range of political, social, and theoretical locations. Considers gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, and nationality as categories of analysis and bases of oppression or privilege, and examines fundamental questions these theories raise about the origins of gender difference, the nature of power, the origins of patriarchy, and the possibilities for resistance, activism, and change. Helps students develop their own theoretical perspectives as well as facility with theoretical terms and research tools in the field.
