Course Description

Examines how political, social, and economic factors intersect and shape the causes and consequences of conflicts, as well as exploring the effectiveness of policies aimed at ending conflicts and rebuilding communities in conflict zones. In addition to studying some of the general literature on the cost of militarization/conflict, the impact of colonialism, and the link between income inequality, resource distribution and conflict, students examine a number of past and current conflict zones. Students will also have the opportunity to look into the ways that gender, race and class issues shape the impact of conflict and post-conflict resolution.
