Course Description

Provides a theoretical orientation to instructional design and assessment. Students have the opportunity to learn to design lessons that (a) address relevant New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and (b) are based upon empirically tested pedagogical models. Students will be asked to recognize the importance of spiraling content and skills across grade levels in order to ensure equitable access for diverse learners. Through fieldwork, students will have the opportunity to evaluate, select, develop, and adapt materials to teach and assess a single learner in the classroom. Students will be asked to apply technical skills and descriptive statistics to analyze student data and draw conclusions about the effectiveness of their instructional design based on student engagement and teacher effectiveness.
