Course Description
An interdisciplinary introduction to a range of qualitative methods used to make meaning from social phenomena. Ethnography, interviewing, focus groups, participatory action research, oral history, case study and visual analysis are some of the methods covered. Course topics include: the role of qualitative methods in relation to quantitative methods, ethics, positionality and role of researcher, and theoretical and epistemological underpinnings of qualitative research. Students will have the opportunity to collaboratively design and conduct qualitative research to learn how to frame, write and engage with qualitative data.
