Course Description

Introduces students to the social and ethical dimensions of cybersecurity in the broader context of western intellectual history. Explores how cyber-attacks reveal the limitations of current computational models as well as ethical issues related to data privacy and the relationship between individuals and social institutions. Engages students with the social, philosophical, ethical, and technical dimensions of cybersecurity and data privacy through case studies, culminating in designing a security policy for a real-world application. Students will have an opportunity to consider different laws and regulations on data collection, privacy protection, data storage and usage in their final policy design.
