Note: 20 upper-level credits are required.

I. Core (32 credits)

Complete all of the following:

  • course - Beginning Chinese I

  • course - Beginning Chinese II

  • course - Intermediate Chinese I

  • course - Intermediate Chinese II

  • course - Modern Chinese Society

  • course - Selected Topics in Modern Chinese Literature and Film

  • course - Selected Topics in Classical Chinese Literature

  • course - Chinese Politics

Note: course and course may be exempted through a placement exam. If exempted, a corresponding number of credits (4 or 8) must be completed from course, course, course, or the Drew Summer language program, and/or the approved study-abroad language programs.

II. Electives (12 credits)

Complete 12 credits, selected from the following:

  • course - Topics in Chinese Culture

  • course - Intermediate Intensive Speaking Chinese (study abroad)

  • course - Intensive Chinese: Listening and Understanding (study abroad)

  • course - Independent Study in Chinese

  • course - Modern Chinese Society OR course - Classical Chinese Culture

  • course - Advanced Chinese Reading OR course - Advanced Chinese Translation

  • course - Selected Topics in Modern Chinese Literature and Film (can be repeated for credit if the topic is different than course taken from section I)

  • course - Advanced Intensive Speaking Chinese (study abroad)

  • course - Intensive Chinese: Listening and Understanding (study abroad)

  • course- Arts of Asia (when on East Asia or China)

  • course - Selected Topics in Economics (when appropriate)

Note

Study abroad in a Drew or Drew-approved program is strongly recommended, especially for students who wish to emphasize language. With prior approval from the program director, students may replace up to 16 credits with courses completed in such programs: 4 language credits in the Core, and 12 elective credits.
