Requisites
Requirements for the Minor (20-30 credits)
I. Required Courses (9-13 credits)
Complete all of the following:
Note: Students who place out of course and course need to take two additional credits in MUS to ensure that the minimum number of credits met in the minor is 20; the department recommends that students in this case take their two semesters of ensemble for credit.
II. Music and Culture (4 credits)
Complete 4 credits, selected from the following:

course - Music and the Soundscape of Film
course - Music of the Whole Earth
course - History of Jazz
course - Women and Music
course - African American Music History
course - Music in the American Century
course - A Cappella Through the Ages
III. Western Music History (4 credits)
Complete 4 credits, selected from the following:
course - Music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Eras
course - Music of the Classic and Romantic Eras
course - Music of the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries
course - Topics in Music History
IV. Composition/Theory (4 credits)
Complete 4 credits, selected from the following:

course - Techniques of 20th- and 21st-Century Composition

course - Electronic Music Composition
V. Membership in at least one ensemble for at least two semesters

VI. Meeting/Concert Attendance
Minors are expected to support all department events but are required to attend all Works in Progress recitals, all majors/minors meetings, and designated concerts/department events.
