Program Description
Major effective prior to 2011
Modifications Made to Curriculum: Fall 2013, Fall 2021
Department of Chemistry offers three majors: a B.A. Chemistry Major (50-54 credits), an American Chemical Society (ACS) Approved major in Chemistry (66 credits), and an ACS-Approved major in Biochemistry (70 credits).
Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations
A student receiving a score of 4 or 5 on the chemistry examination should consult with the department about the possibility of course exemption. Such determinations are made on an individual basis because of the varying content of AP chemistry courses. Approval of the department is required for credit and exemption related to any course included in the Chemistry major.
Students with scores of 4 or 5 on the AP chemistry examination can receive four credits toward the general education requirements of the College. If credit is not granted for course or course, AP credits are considered the equivalent of a lower level Chemistry Elective, course. See the Registrar's Office website for more information about AP credits.
